In
contrast to the April 7, 2005 Journal article, this attendee
at the April
6 Public Hearing regarding the Proposed Town of Poughkeepsie
Moratorium,
found there were approximately 25 individuals in favor;
12 against; and
four neutral. The 25 in favor were generally town residents
and taxpayers
concerned about uncontrolled growth which effects quality
of life; of the 12
against several were developers and their attorneys; among
the four neutral,
were those representing school districts affected by town
growth - not
offering an opinion for or against.
I have a hard time understanding how the Journal can run
a headline which
read "Town building moratorium has few fans" -
when clearly those in
attendance who spoke in favor of the moratorium were in
the greater number.
Regarding Mr. Miron's quote - In this case "the MAJORITY
had the louder
voice and was better organized", because they have
to be - they don't have
some of the deep pockets some of the MINORITY developers
do".
As a resident of the Fairview Fire District and the Town's
4th Ward, I
foresee Fire District Taxes going down by $100.00 with the
development of
the Hudson Heritage LLC Site; our School District Taxes
rising by $300.00.
For those of us in the Town's 4th Ward, there appears to
be no end in sight.
The Town, approaching this intersection with the "Moratorium
Stop Sign",
must Stop, Put a Moratorium in Place, Look, Listen and then
proceed with
caution, in order to protect the quality of life of its
citizens.
