Consultant picked for projects in Hyde Park
Firm has served community before

HYDE PARK — The town is sticking with a familiar firm in hiring a planning consultant.
The Hyde Park town board voted unanimously this week to appoint as planner Morris Associates of Hyde Park, the town's longtime engineering consultant.
"The working relationship is already there," Councilwoman Sharon Piraino-Buko said.
With a new zoning code on the books and a number of large developments being proposed in Hyde Park, board members agree a professional planner is needed to coordinate all the projects and provide the town, planning and zoning boards with sound advice.
"It has been a very important issue to us," Supervisor Pompey Delafield said.
John Morabito will be the Morris Associate planner Hyde Park will deal with on a regular basis.
Other towns also served
Delafield said Morabito has experience as town planner for the towns of Fishkill and East Fishkill.
They also get someone with a hometown connection. Morabito said he was a Hyde Park resident for 17 years. He has been a resident of Fishkill for five years.
"I want to assure you we will put all of our services to use to serve you well," Morabito said at the recent town board meeting in town hall.
Morabito will be paid an hourly rate of $95. Those payments will be funded through escrow fees paid by developers to the town, grant money and a $15,000 allocation in the town budget.
Some Hyde Park officials have been anxious to hire a planner to help correct what they call inconsistencies in the zoning regulations enacted by the previous Republican-led town board in September. The Democrats took over the board after sweeping the November elections.
"We need to fix the zoning and we need to do it fast," planning board member Anne Dexter said.
