Waterfront developer will outline his plans

KINGSTON - A developer who has bought land along the city's Rondout Creek waterfront will explain his development plans to members of the community during a public gathering next week.

Ann Loeding, of the group Friends of the Rondout, said Robert Iannucci, a retired Brooklyn attorney, will welcome the public at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the former Cornell Steamboat Co. building at 108 East Strand, which he now owns.

Loeding said in a prepared statement that Iannucci and his "development team" will outline plans for some of the properties Iannucci has purchased, including Island Dock, a small strip of land in the Rondout Creek.

Last summer, Iannucci's development team said the plan for Island Dock included 160-170 townhouses, covering up to 350,000 square feet, and some commercial space. Most of the housing units would have private docks, and a pedestrian bridge would be constructed to connect Island Dock to Downtown Kingston, Iannucci's team said.
No formal plan for Island Dock or any other Iannucci property has been submitted to the city.

Kingston Mayor James Sottile was pleased to hear Iannucci will meet with the public next week.
"We want an informed public," Sottile said. "They (developers) need to take the time to address the public and let them know what is going on. ... There has to be a sense of trust."

The mayor noted that two other developers who want to build in Kingston - AVR Acquisition of Yonkers, which has proposed a riverfront housing development called The Landing; and the Teicher Organization of New Jersey, which wants to construct a 12-story, 214-unit condo building on North Front Street - have met with members of the community on several occasions to explain their intentions.
